Ocular Surface

The surface of the eye that is exposed to the air can be affected by many conditions, from common ailments such as conjunctivitis (infection causing red eye), allergies and minor trauma to more severe conditions such as rare inflammatory diseases and malformations. Some of these conditions are easily cured or may disappear as children get older. However, other conditions progress over a person’s lifetime and some are affected by the environment, may have a genetic basis or could be brought about by both. Our projects aim to understand these conditions better and to develop new treatments.
