Uveitis is a condition in which our immune system attacks our own body tissue – called an “autoimmune condition”. In uveitis, the immune system causes an inflammation of the iris (the coloured part of the eye around the pupil). Sometimes this inflammation also includes tissues deeper inside the eye, such as the vitreous (the gel inside the eye), the choroid and the retina.
